John 4:16-26

The Samaritan woman showed up around noon. Normally the hottest part of the day, it was not considered to be normal “well time.” Normal “well time” would be early, when the sun was rising and temperatures were cooler to carry your water home. However, her “well time” was set to avoid the judgmental glances and murmurs from the other water gatherers.

When Jesus offered her “special” water, she jumped at the chance to avoid the water gatherers and the noonday sun. No more trips to the well! Obviously, she didn’t quite grasp just how special this water was that Jesus offered.

She also had a difficult time understanding Jesus’ explanation of what true worship was in a relationship with God.

True worship requires both Spirit and Truth. It has nothing to do with cultural background. It is not limited to a place, such as a temple or mountain.

God is seeking true worshippers who worship Him in Spirit and Truth. The truth becomes nourishment from the Word of God.
