Romans 8:18-30

Hope is a funny thing. Sometimes when we say that we hope for something, what we’re really saying is, “I kinda don’t want to expect anything because I don’t want to be disappointed but I really want to believe because I am supposed to but. . . .” We want to have the kind of hope that lives in expectation, but the reality is that we’re afraid of being disappointed . . . in life, and even in God.

God is the source of hope and invites us to live in hope with Him. Sometimes we forget that if one side of the spiritual coin is hope, the other side is waiting. They go together.

In an age of instant access to news, communication, entertainment, even food, waiting has been deemed unacceptable.  Yet waiting is what makes hope so special. Notice the sentence above: God invites us to live in hope with Him. We aren’t alone in the waiting; God is there. He holds our hands, whispers encouragement in our ears, surrounds us with peace as we wait.  He is with us in the waiting.
