The Eyes of Christ
February 1st, 2020
2 Corinthians 10:7-18
I keep a journal for my grandchildren to record thoughts that may only take on meaning when they are older. This excerpt is from 2008, election year:
“Headline News! While all presidents are recorded in American history, Barrack Obama will be remembered, at least in part, as the first non-Caucasian president. Perhaps by the time you read this you will be wondering why skin color is part of the conversation but for now, I am sad to say that there are people who believe that the only skin tone worthy of leading is white. I am also sorry to say that these beliefs are far too often rooted in the name of religion.
Reflecting on this idea, I invite us to ponder the words written to the church of Corinth and ultimately, the Church universal: “You are judging by appearances. If anyone is confident that they belong to Christ, they should consider again that we belong to Christ just as much as they do.” How do you see those around you? Ask Christ to give you eyes like His today.
