1 Corinthians 14:1-12

Spiritual gifts seem to have been a big deal for the church in Corinth, or at least Paul spent a lot of time addressing them in his first letter to the Corinthians. They were placing greater importance on some gifts and less importance on others; Paul wanted to minimize this.

He reminded them that all spiritual gifts come from the same Spirit. Each part of the body is important and needed in order for the body to function properly. Love is of the ultimate importance. The most significant purpose of these gifts is for the building up of others.

Often, we want to be noticed; we want to feel like we are important. While there is nothing wrong with that, it can become destructive when our desire for importance comes at the expense of others. As we seek to be filled with the Holy Spirit and to be people overflowing with God, let us allow Him to grow those gifts in us that will build up those around us. Ask God to reveal His love in you and through you as He equips you with spiritual gifts.

God called me to leave my church and called me to the mission field – a local UMC. I am a consecrated Diaconal Minister. I have never forgotten nor left my Nazarene roots. I read this devotional every morning and I am connected!
