A Light In Darkness
November 22nd, 2019
2 Corinthians 4:1-12
Once when I was four years old, our electricity went out because of a strong thunderstorm. My father was not home, it was dark, and my brother and I were afraid. My mother lit a candle and placed it in the center of the room. That tiny light piercing the darkness brought comfort.
For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ” (2 Corinthians 4:6). Because God’s light has shined in the darkness, we share in the light of God’s glory. The light in us reveals Christ to the world.
Our “treasure in jars of clay” is the light of Christ. Even though trials come, the light remains. We have victory through Christ in spite of suffering. We glory in the cross, yet we rejoice in the resurrection. No matter how tiny the light, it invariably penetrates the darkness. God’s glory glows from the heart of His people. The world cannot help but see it.
