Acts 13:26-41

Paul’s mission to the synagogues, and especially to the God-fearing Gentile, was a fairly bold move. Listening and worshipping for a while with them, he waited for his moment to speak. Then he spent the majority of his narrative establishing common ground with everyone in attendance. All present that day had accepted the story of God as revealed through the Law and the Prophets. Paul, however, has a special message from God for them.

Paul had the chance to share with those who had a kindred, yet distinct belief. Building on what they all held sacred, he crafted an opportunity to share the gospel in a way that spoke uniquely to them.

Talking about God with our own family and friends can seem daunting. It is sometimes difficult to effectively share fundamental beliefs with those who are closest to us, but who think differently from us. In Acts 13, Paul models one way to share our faith.

We have so much common ground. We can use that groundwork to show new ways to love and live.

    Shouldn’t today’s scripture reference be Acts 13:42-52?

Acts 13:26-41 is the right reference, but could be expanded to vv. 42-52.
