Psalm 65:1-13

We become troubled when we focus solely upon God as a wrathful judge. While God is God of wrath, He is also God of grace. One cannot be held in isolation from the other.

King David gives us a grace-filled picture of God the gardener. The first place God made for man was a garden. He even invited our first parents to join with Him in caring for the garden. When sin shattered that relationship God continued to care for the earth. David points out that God’s handiwork gives honor to Him and invokes awe in those who worship Him: “Where morning dawns, where evening fades, you call forth songs of joy” (Psalm 65:8).

Although mankind’s sin brought a curse upon the ground, God continues to “care for the land and water it” (v. 9). In response, all creation shouts for joy and sings (v. 13). Our God is not a one-dimensional God of wrath. He is also a God of grace who still tenderly cares for His creation and invites us to do the same.
