Good News For Everyone
October 31st, 2019
Acts 10:36-48
The encounter between Peter and Cornelius gave the church a super-sized, memorable example of how the Gentiles are to be accepted into the Christian faith as equals with Jewish believers.
Peter summarized Jesus’ ministry, crucifixion, and resurrection. When he said, “everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name” (Acts 10:43b), the sermon was interrupted by the Holy Spirit falling on the Gentile listeners. Peter, Cornelius, and their associates, were all surprised that the gospel message was now available to anyone who believes.
Later, when the apostles among the church leaders heard Peter’s story, they surely remembered Jesus’ last exhortation to them before the ascension: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:19-20).
Today, Christians still have the privilege—and command—to share the good news.
