2 Timothy 4:1-8
John is a member of his church’s senior adult choir. The weekly practice sessions include time to pray together and encourage one another. Then every spring, the choir visits one or two churches on their district. But when it is time for a performance, choir members are often dispatched to get John. They will usually find him sharing the gospel with someone he has just met.
John has created a lifestyle of sharing the gospel. Not only is John ready to share the gospel, he looks for opportunities.
In 2 Timothy 4, the phrase “in season and out of season” is translated “whether it is convenient or inconvenient” in the Common English Bible and “whenever you get the chance” in The Living Bible. What a challenge to those of us distracted by routine and busyness.
Availability is one of the most important aspects of Christian service and evangelism. To illustrate this concept, we might loosely paraphrase 1 Corinthians 13:3 like this: If I know the gospel message, but am not available to share it, God’s kingdom gains nothing.
