God’s Power
September 11th, 2019
Acts 3:1-10
We have all heard stories of lives being positively impacted by others. Our hearts warm to hear of people traveling across oceans to help those in need. No doubt those efforts have a positive effect, but how deep is it?
As Peter and John were walking to the temple they saw a man being carried to the gate. The man had been crippled over 40 years old. Since begging was the man’s only means to meet his basic needs, he was most likely a regular fixture at the gate. The man presumably believed that before the crucifixion Jesus could have healed him, but now his priority was collecting resources to survive.
When the man asked Peter for money, his request was denied; Peter offered him something better, however, something that would have a much deeper effect than money. Peter declared “in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk” (Acts 3:6b). Instantly the man’s ankles and legs were strengthened, and he was able to walk. Peter offered him the resource that would make the deepest change and sustain the man’s life eternally. That’s God’s power!
