John 6:1-15

As a professor, I have the privilege of interacting with young adults during a critical time in their lives. Many college students are living on their own for the first time while learning how to navigate adulthood. Regardless of their history and baggage, they all need encouragement.

When we think of the people in position to bless others, we typically think of people who have great riches and power, but in today’s scripture God used a highly unlikely person. The story of Jesus feeding the five thousand is a perfect illustration of God using ordinary people to bless others.

As a great crowd formed around Jesus, He showed concern for them by asking how they could be fed. Andrew showed his heart by identifying a common boy with five small loaves of bread and two small fish. The boy surrendered his food, Jesus blessed it, and over 5,000 men were fed with plenty left over!

Whether it’s a blessing of encouragement or a blessing of food, when we are obedient to God’s will He will use us to bring blessings to others.
