Temporarily Disconnected

Hebrews 13:1-8
Our world has become a super connected place in some ways. With the internet, and e-mail, and the ever increasing number of social media sites, we can easily stay in contact with people we haven’t seen in decades. And yet, people are more lonely than they have been in generations. Despite our connections, in many ways we seem to have made ourselves more isolated than ever. All of our many social media-driven connection points have failed to properly relate us to other people.
The author of Hebrews offers us a way to pierce this wall of loneliness that seems to surround so many in our world today. We are called to make the suffering of others our own. We are to visit prisoners, welcome strangers, and treat those who are isolated like our own family. Since God has invited us into His family through the death and resurrection of Jesus, we are called to share that hospitality with those who are hurting in our midst. When we step out from behind our screens and interact with people, serving them as Christ would, we make life-changing connections.
