Following Christ
June 15th, 2019
Luke 14:25-35
The call of God to go and sell all they had was a new experience for a pastoral couple ready to retire. Yet, God was calling them to go, sell it all, and train 3,000 new pastors in 5 years to meet the ever-growing need in countries where people begged to be discipled but very few pastors existed. It was more than possessions, they also gave up retirement status, and nearness of grandkids. Their willingness to answer the call of God, again, is humbling.
When Jesus said we must be willing to give up everything, we tend to think of excuses why that couldn’t mean us. Yet the call to follow Jesus in every day life might cost us everything. We cannot take anything in this world with us, except for the fruit of our labor—the souls we disciple. Is there anything you are clinging to that keeps you from saying a wholehearted “yes” to Jesus? Be “all in” for Christ!
