How Far Away?
June 9th, 2019
Psalm 103:1-12
Have you ever taken a road trip with a young child? If you have, undoubtedly you have heard (perhaps more than once), “are we there yet?” from the backseat. Our youngest boy is a classic questioner of the estimated time of arrival. In fact, he doesn’t wait too long before he starts questioning just how much longer he has to wait. He doesn’t want to wait too long before arriving at his destination.
In order to travel around the circumference of the Earth, one would have to trek 24,901 miles. Thousands of miles would have to be covered to end where you began. And yet, no matter how far you go you will never find the spot where the east and the west meet. The east and west are worlds apart, never touching, never crossing, forever separate. That astonishingly remote separation is the same distance as your transgressions (willful violations against known laws of God) are from you when God saves you. You can not even measure that distance! What freedom and life God’s grace provides us.
