Ephesians 6:10-24
Ephesians 6 is a familiar passage of scripture that brings to mind many teachings. As the “armor of God” is outlined, all of the pieces of the armor are defensive or protective in design, except one. The only offensive weapon mentioned in this passage is the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. The Word of God must be pervasive in our lives.
When you are fearful, facing the unknown, or when you need to make a decision, do you turn to God’s Word? We need to read it, study it, meditate upon it, memorize it, and let it inform how we live each day.
Sometimes we don’t do this. Instead we abbreviate or truncate it, sifting through the parts of the Word of God that are easier to follow than others. This, however, is not God’s intention for us. God calls us to obey his living and active Word. Living in accordance with and in submission to his Word will bring about God’s redemptive work, his strength, and power in our lives and in our world.
