Zechariah 7:1-14

Having lived in several different places, I’ve come across a variety of sports teams and their fan base. Some teams have very loyal fans: it doesn’t matter how well or terrible the team play the fans support them. Other teams are followed only by folks interested in a winning team. We call these fickle folks, fair-weather fans.

God is not a fair-weather fan. He pours grace out on all people, whether they have the right look, sound, bank account, ancestry, or education. God loves the poor, oppressed, orphan, sick, imprisoned, and unwanted. Over and over, we hear a call to care for those no one cares for.

People tend to be fair-weather fans. We look at others and size them up. We categorize others based on what we can get from them and how much they are like us. If the other won’t conform to our lives or costs us too much, we cast them aside.

Look around you. Are you a fair-weather fan only caring for those who have something to give you? Join God’s team and support his kingdom.
