2 Samuel 6:12-23

David’s undignified worship of God is more than just an exuberant display. It was also a show of his priorities. There are so many things in this life that we are tempted to falsely put our faith in from possessions to political parties. Too often we are brought to that uncomfortable position where following Christ puts us at odds with whatever else seeks our worship. David sets an powerful precedent by worshipping God before anyone (or anything else).

Like David we are given the same decision when earthly things demand our worship and sole allegiance. We can put following Jesus on the back burner or we can be at odds with whatever seeks to replace the gospel in our lives. Like David, we should blatantly and unapologetically seek after Jesus. It is not always comfortable and it can certainly cost us (Our Lord certainly did not sugar coat that), but still we are called to be like David in our devotion and worship to the Lord before any other powers of this world.
