Leviticus 19:26-37

Recently I was in a large city when the Lord told me to stop and talk to a homeless woman. Her story was heartbreaking. As I talked with her, attempting to empathize with her, she said, “You just remember that you’re just one step away from being where I am.” I left that conversation knowing that she was right. I don’t understand why she was there and I wasn’t. But what I do understand is that God loves that woman. I also understand that I am one of those he has called to be the light of Christ to her.

Those from broken homes, living in broken societies, and carrying around broken hearts are everywhere. God has called us to be a holy people. For one of the founders of the Church of the Nazarene, Phineas Bresee, the founder of the Salvation Army, William Booth, and many other leaders and Christians throughout history, that call to holiness is directly connected to caring for the poor, hurting, and broken. Whether a refugee, a homeless woman, a child from a broken home, or countless other possibilities, someone needs your holy acts of compassion right now.
