Are You For God Or Not?
October 2nd, 2018
Exodus 32:15-26
The scene couldn’t be more chaotic: people running around and acting like complete fools. The golden calf ground to pieces and sprinkled on the water for people to be forced to drink. The stone tablets lying broken at the foot of the mountain where God’s presence was residing, symbolizing the brokenness of the newly formed covenant. Moses with steam coming out his ears. And Aaron, the one who had been left in charge, doing everything he can to deflect blame from himself, only to make himself look even more foolish than he already did. In the midst of all this chaos, there is a call to order: Moses said, “Whoever is for the LORD, come to me.” The Levites responded.
The Levites were the priestly line in ancient Israel. The Apostle Peter told the young church that they were “a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation.” In this world where chaos and sin is the order of the day, God is calling His people to order, to obey His commands to do his bidding in this world. Are you reporting for duty today?
