First, God Made A Promise
August 27th, 2018
Genesis 12:1-9
My daughter started asking about her birthday party months in advance. We had promised her a party on her birthday. Despite the wait, she trusted that we would keep our promise and months later we had a party on her birthday.
God began his relationship with the Hebrews with a promise to Abram, a promise that Abram did not live to see fulfilled. Despite this, Abram chose to have faith that what God has said would happen. Because of his faith, many years later the promise was fulfilled.
Sometimes, the promises of God do not happen in our timeline, yet God calls us to faithful obedience, trusting that his promises will come true. Like my daughter, we wait in expectant hope of the fulfillment of the promise. John 20:29 says, “Then Jesus told him, ‘Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.’” Like Abram, we cling to the promises of God, knowing that one day all will be made right.
