Giving Thanks

Hebrews 12:18-29
Have you ever watched one of Oprah’s Give Away shows? She was giving gifts to everyone in the audience: bracelets, house slippers, popcorn. As people received these gifts they were overcome with excitement and thanksgiving! They were jumping up and down, hugging each other, crying, falling down on their knees. It looked like more of a worship service than a television show!
That day I was convicted of my own lack of thanks and praise to God for all He has given me. I have received a far greater gift than a tin of popcorn or a pair of house slippers. I have been forgiven of my sins—which were many, filled with His Holy Spirit, set apart for His Holy use, blessed with a wonderful family, and given a place to serve and to use my gifts. Shouldn’t I thank and praise Him more for how He sustains me, protects me, and for His many blessings to me each day and for His abiding presence that is always with me?
The Hebrews writer reminds us in chapter 12 that we have been given a kingdom that cannot be shaken, so let us continually give to Him our thanks!
