Acts 10:39-48

Look both ways before crossing the street. This good advice was drilled into our heads at a very young age. This carefully-practiced habit keeps us from stepping off the curb into the path of a moving vehicle.

No matter what we do or say, we ought to look both ways to see what God is doing. Otherwise, we run the risk of standing in the way of what God is doing. Whether we preach, teach Sunday School, pass out bulletins, or sing in the choir, we must always point people toward God. The same is true when we engage in public discourse, social media, or interact with our neighbors.

The Jewish believers in Acts 10:39-48 could have held rigidly to their interpretation of Scripture, as colored by their own reason, experience, and tradition. They could have stood in the way of the brand new thing that God was doing. Instead, Peter exhorted them to get out of the way, and he proceeded to baptize some Gentile converts into the kingdom of God.

God, help me to never get in the way of what You want to accomplish today!
