Confronted By God’s Word
October 31st, 2017
2 Kings 22:12-20
When confronted by God’s Word, it is always best to willingly receive and allow God’s transforming power to effectively work in our lives. King Josiah quickly appreciated when confronted by God’s Word that the people of God were not living the holy lifestyles required by God. This young king had a responsive and tender heart, and he sought God’s guidance at this dark season in Israel’s history.
“‘The Lord will judge his people.’ It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God” (Hebrews 10:30b-31). The prophet Huldah, when consulted, gave a solemn warning that Judah would be punished severely because of continued disobedience to the book of God’s law as seen through broken relationship with the Lord and idol worship.
The good news for Josiah was that he would be spared in his lifetime from the disaster and punishment prophesied for Israel because of his responsive heart when confronted by God’s Word. The grace of God still shows mercy to all who obediently and humbly respond when confronted by God’s Word.
