Humility Invites Guidance
July 8th, 2017
Psalm 25:1-12
When people talk about asking for directions, the customary observation is that men seem to have an aversion to asking anyone for directions until they are well and truly lost. It would appear that this habit is due to men being too proud to admit that they do not know where they are going. Often this quality is discussed jokingly, but to be lost and not know where one is going is no laughing matter.
As critical as it is to be lost geographically, being lost spiritually is even worse. Our only sure recourse is to call out to the Lord in true humility. In Psalm 25 David affirms that God’s directions are trustworthy and based upon His love and faithfulness to us. There is no shame in following God’s directions. If anyone had reason to be proud, it was David, and yet he humbly called out to God for guidance. David affirmed, “He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way” (Psalm 25:9). May we humble ourselves to ask for the Lord’s guidance, and walk in the way that the He shows us.
