Romans 13:6-14
An interesting question for each of us today, in the light of world tensions, vast amounts of technology at our fingertips, and varying opinions on what our responsibilities might be: “Wherein does our responsibility lay in regard to our God, family, and governments?” There is a very clear answer to this dilemma found in Micah 6:8, “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
Looking further into the Word of God we find a profound passage that goes straight to the heart of the matter. In Romans 13:9b-10 we read: “‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.” It is herein that we find the light of truth, righteousness, and peace. Freedom in Christ is found in doing the right, pursuing our responsibilities and fulfilling them because it is God’s will that we do so!
It is the great dichotomy, finding freedom within and through the law of God.
