Wisdom’s Hymn
May 21st, 2017
Proverbs 8:22-36
In the Bible, wisdom can be broadly defined as the skillful or righteous application of knowledge. In Proverbs 8, wisdom is personified as a female teacher: “At the highest point along the way, where the paths meet, she takes her stand; beside the gate leading into the city, at the entrance, she cries aloud: ‘To you, O people, I call out; I raise my voice to all mankind. You who are simple, gain prudence; you who are foolish, set your hearts on it’” (vv. 2-5).
Wisdom is not natural to the human condition; it requires careful instruction. Wisdom is attainable only by those who will humbly give attention to its teaching and follow its ways.
Where do we find such wisdom? It is found in a close relationship with God, through the study of His Word, by daily seeking the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and following closely the teaching and example of our Savior Jesus Christ.
