Psalm 71:14-24

As a pastor, I often paused in public worship to acknowledge someone wanting to give spontaneous expression to their personal experience of God’s faithfulness and blessing. We set aside time in services to hear these testimonies from God’s people. Many were simple expressions of praise for God’s amazing gifts of salvation, answers to prayer, a healing touch, the Holy Spirit’s help in overcoming temptation, a Bible verse that suddenly came alive with new meaning, or appreciation for God’s daily provision and loving care. There is something powerful about honest, sincere, and God-honoring testimony.

David recognized that God’s actions on his behalf demanded expression: “My mouth will tell of your righteous deeds, of your saving acts all day long–though I know not how to relate them all” (v. 15). He saw this not only as a duty before God but an obligation to following generations.

Whether in public worship or personal conversation, we should be ready to declare the faithfulness of our great God.
