Ruth 2:14-23
Can you remember a time in your life when someone showed you kindness and favor? Maybe it was a kind word when you were feeling blue. Or, a gift you felt you didn’t deserve.
Ruth had lost her husband and left her home of origin; she was now working all day in a field so that she and her mother-in-law could eat and stay alive. Naomi’s kinsman, Boaz, was impressed by Ruth’s devotion to Naomi, and he took steps to ensure her safety and well-being in his fields. His kindness and compassion literally saved her life.
Everyone needs compassion and kindness. The way Boaz treated Ruth in this passage of Scripture echoes the kindness and compassion that God has for us. God has never stopped showing His kindness for His creation. Even before Adam and Eve sinned in the garden, God made a way to send a Redeemer to bring healing and restoration to His creation.
We too have experienced God’s compassion and grace. Let’s extend this same grace and compassion to someone near to us.
