When Time Is Short
January 10th, 2017
2 Peter 3:1-9
When time is short, what do responsible people do? They work faster. They work smarter. They address priorities. They understand that when time is short, some things don’t matter.
Peter delivers the same message. Since everything will be destroyed, how should Christians use this short time? His answer renews God’s call to holy living. Why? Because when God possesses agendas, dreams, values, and priorities, there is no place for self-directed detours. His people understand the right balance between living in the world but not being of the world. They live forward, anticipating the time when a new balance will turn the world right side up. They live cautiously, without caving into values or perspectives that do not represent God’s righteousness. They keep growing in their understanding of the character and passion of God. They make His priorities their priorities.
Then, when the end comes, the surprise is part of the gift they have been waiting for.
