Romans 2:1-11

Visit any hospital, any impoverished country, or any prison, and you will be reminded of God’s goodness toward you. In ignorance and pride, all too many of us have lived apart from Christ, unrepentant and emboldened in sin. Yet, even as unrepentant sinners, we enjoyed the favor of God.

We must be thankful for God’s prevenient grace. This is the grace God bestows on people, prior to salvation, to draw them to Christ. It is God extending His hand of mercy to all. God makes the first move to humankind, enabling us to respond to Him. According to Peter, God’s will and desire is for all to be saved. God “is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9). The goal of God’s kindness is to lead us to a place of repentance (Romans 2:4).

We experience God’s kindness every day. His goodness keeps us safe and secure in the midst of a crazy, uncertain world. We can rest on the promises of God.
