Want A Blessing?
October 12th, 2016
Psalm 119:1-16
Many books are written to help people find the “meaning of life.” People spend their lives engaged in pursuits they believe will bring ultimate happiness. Many strive for bigger houses and nicer cars. Many seek escape from the difficulties of society through the pursuit of a “good time.” Many pursue freedom by rejecting responsibilities and caring for only themselves. Many pursue fame and fortune in hopes that they can find a cure for the emptiness of life. Many seek relationship after relationship, hoping the next one will be the one that will work.
Hollywood and sports figures often reveal the emptiness of pursuing “the good life.” Those who seem to have it all sometimes lose it all when they take their own lives or overdose on substances like drugs and alcohol that were intended to make them happy.
The psalmist takes a different position. “How is chasing after every whim with all your heart working for you?” He shares with us that real blessing is seeking God with all our hearts and being made complete in Him.
