Turn To God
September 26th, 2016
1 Samuel 1:1-20
In 1 Samuel 1, we meet Hannah and Peninnah, the wives of Elkanah. Peninnah had children and Hannah was barren. In those times, having children was thought to be a sign of blessing from God, so Hannah was understandably distraught.
After years of grief, Hannah placed herself humbly before the Lord. She prayed in deep anguish, weeping bitterly. The Lord answered Hannah’s prayer and blessed her with a child, a son she named Samuel.
When life serves up trials, we can always turn to our one and only God. This is His desire, that we might seek His face in times of distress. What do you do when times get tough? Do you cry out to the Lord? Hannah was asking for a miracle and knew God could perform one.
It was in God’s will that Hannah conceived and gave birth to Samuel. It was Hannah’s deep and earnest faith that God found so appealing. God may not give us exactly what we want, but He will always give us what He knows we need. Give your heart to God and allow Him to do a glorious work in your life.
