Hold Fast

Titus 1:1-9
I’ve never liked bugs, but this was a new low! While holding on tightly, I rode one of the largest roller coasters in the amusement park, only to be hit in the eye with an insect. After visiting the nurse, I was sent on my way with a patch over my eye and a less than clear view of my surroundings.
The Apostle Paul instructs elders to hold tightly to what the trustworthy message they received (Titus 1:9). That way, in essence, they will avoid getting any bugs in their eyes which would distort their doctrine. If they were unable to see clearly, how could they lead anyone else?
Although Titus chapter one focuses on elders in the church, that doesn’t disqualify the rest of us from paying attention. The elders were not expected to live a life of holiness and consistency for their own sakes, but for the sake of building others up in the faith.
Regardless of our vocation, we each have a sphere of influence—whether in front of a congregation, inside a classroom, or behind a cash register.
