Breathtaking Confidence

1 John 5:1-21
“Ask anything!” What sweeping words. Imagine you unwittingly saved the life of a billionaire’s beloved pet. The grateful tycoon expresses gratitude and invites you to “ask anything” for your kindness. What would you ask?
John writes, “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him” (John 5:14-15). The crucial point is that we ask “according to his will.” The only way we can know that is by remaining close to Him and listening carefully to His words. Jesus said, “And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day” (John 6:39-40). That is priceless!
