1 John 4:1-6

You may recall hearing the warning since you were a child, “Don’t believe everything you hear.” It is sound advice for sure. From election campaign promises to television commercials promising miraculous weight loss, not everything you hear is always accurate. In a day of false religions and cafeteria style Christianity it can be hard to know what “Truth” is, and if the person talking can be trusted. Here is the litmus test for spotting the Spirit of Truth and the spirit of falsehood. This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God (1 John 4:2).

Don’t believe every spirit, every speaker, or every teaching until you know the facts. Does the speaker or teaching acknowledge that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh (that He was both God and man)? The end of the matter is, of course, that Jesus was raised from the dead to prove He was from God.
