Guard Duty
May 15th, 2016
2 Peter 3:1-18
The tour took us to Buckingham Palace. During our visit, we observed the changing of the guard with all the pomp. Crowds gathered and cameras flashed as the ceremony unfolded. There was something very dignified and awe-inspiring about the process. The soldiers with their bright red jackets and tall hats, marching in precise formation, made me think that I was at a show. But it was not a show. The soldiers were real and trained to fight and guard the palace and its inhabitants to the death! It has always been their job to guard against intruders or anyone who would do harm to the royal family or anyone inside the palace. It remains their job to this day.
Peter warned his friends that they, like the Buckingham Palace soldiers, needed to be on guard against the enemy of the soul and the righteousness of God.
Guard against those who would rob your faith and the sins that so easily come to us; anything that would lead us away from God. Guard those things that strengthen the faith; anything that would lead us toward God.
