Leviticus 26:3-13, 40-46
Promises, promises! From TV ads which promise weight loss and cleaner clothes to financial experts who promise to make us rich, our daily lives are filled with promises. We all make promises. Some we fully intend to keep, others we hope to keep, and some are a way to put off a problem for another time.
The Bible is filled with promises. In Leviticus 26, God speaks to His people, giving them the assurance of His presence, the promise of a fruitful land, peace, victory in battle, and even more. These promises can be counted on. They are made by God, who has and will prove himself faithful.
Sandwiched between God’s promises are instructions for the people of Israel. God’s promises require their obedience. That’s all. God will do the hard work. They simply must follow and obey. God’s covenant promise of His presence and care is for us as well. He is and will be faithful. Will we do our part to trust and obey?
