Acts 3:1-10
After Pentecost, as Peter and John were on their way to the Temple, they encountered a man who had been crippled from birth. He asked them for money. But behind the beggar’s request, Peter saw a deeper need. He replied, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk” (v. 6). The man’s feet and ankles became strong as Peter helped him up. He walked and jumped around the Temple court, praising God and attracting others’ attention.
Peter had proclaimed God’s healing power. But wasn’t Peter taking a risk in doing so? What if God had not healed the man?
How often are we bound by the question “what if?” As someone who has prayed for hundreds of sick people over the last 30 years, I can sympathize with anyone who has asked that question. Yet would Jesus leave us in such a lurch when we simply obey His word? Can we trust Jesus like His disciples did as they “went from village to village, proclaiming the good news and healing people everywhere” (Luke 9:6)?
