Psalm 73:12-28

Frustrating, isn’t it? Those guilty of injustice, who cynically manipulate the system for their own benefit, appear to get away with it! The psalmist writes, “Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure and have washed my hands in innocence” (v. 13). Despite having lived a good, principled life, the psalmist seems to lament, “Where has right living got me?”

The turning point comes when he says, “When I tried to understand all this, it troubled me deeply till I entered the sanctuary of God then I understood their final destiny” (vv. 16-17). A new perspective dawns as he encounters God in worship.

We too can have this new perspective. A focus on the transient “successes” of life and what we don’t have brings bitterness and anguish of heart. But O, the release in finding that God is near! We find our eternal refuge in Him; we find fresh perspective to see Him at work around us. When we gain this perspective, we can do nothing but testify of God’s wonderful deeds.
