2 Samuel 22:1-20

David knew real fear. He had been hunted like a wounded animal. He had cowered in darkness wanting to gasp for air, but fearful that his next breath might give him away. His heart pounded so loudly in his ears that he feared he would not hear his enemy’s footsteps. His heart cried out for deliverance–real, fire-breathing, sky-splitting, thunder-and-lightning deliverance. This was a matter of life and death.

“I knew I was a sinner,” he testified. “I wanted to run away and never look back. I gripped the pew in front of me so tightly that my knuckles turned white. I shook and cried. I couldn’t stop. I heard a voice from deep within saying, ‘Come! Come now!’ ‘Where?’ I cried. ‘To Me!’ He replied.” The God who delivers met David at an altar of prayer.

Do all people encounter God in this way? No. Yet, for those who cry out in deep conviction, who realize that they will be lost unless God forgives them, cleanses them, and gives them new life, He still comes.

Psalm 34;18 KJV The Lord is righ unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. When we come to the Lord with a broken heart and contrite spirit the Lord always lifts us up. He is merciful and loves us so.

I love the powerful imagery of this scripture! The Lord rides to our rescue in the midst of the storm, fully in control, and lifts us from the threats surrounding us! Oh, what a Savior!!
