Psalm 26:1-12

In the minds of many athletes there is one question never far from the surface: Do I measure up? Looking around at competitors who are bigger, stronger, or faster this question will arise. The athlete’s answer will affect his or her future. If yes, they may rise to great accomplishments; if no, they may need to make adjustments. Neither can happen if the question isn’t asked.

King David asked God, “Test me, Lord, and try me, examine my heart and my mind” (Psalm 26:2). He wanted to know if he measured up to what God expected of him. David’s courage and humility afforded a valuable opportunity to know where he stood with God. It also helped David understand what the next steps in his life should be. If all is well, he could continue on confidently; if something has gone awry, he could correct his course.

From time to time we all need to correct our course. We can choose to be vulnerable today, stand before our heavenly Father and say “Test me.” He will.
