Acts 11:1-18

Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” This line points to the power of our calling as Christian witnesses and agents of God’s reconciling work in Jesus Christ. We must constantly engage the oppressive forces that would strip men and women of their God created dignity.

In Acts 11, Peter explains how he came face to face with God’s will for the world and the prejudice of God’s people.

It happens in everyone’s life. A time comes when what we know is right meets what is wrong in our world. For the Christian it is where God’s justice meets the world’s ways. In those times we are to be the prophets of God’s justice. Just like Peter choosing to prophetically announce the good news that all people (Jews and Gentiles) are included in God’s work in Jesus Christ, we are called to speak. Therefore, despite the opposition we’ll experience we must proclaim God’s universal gift of salvation in Jesus Christ.

The question is can we take this challenge and stand against the culture decisions that are ungodly and make a stand. Or will it only be about how sympathetic we are to the sin that so easily entangles us and others that in consequence turns others away from Christ because they do not see a difference in our lives. And the difference must be there!
