Trust, Commitment

1 Kings 8:1-21
Weddings, funerals, family reunions, class reunions have a number of things in common. Their intended purpose is to celebrate life’s important events and most meaningful relationships. The dedication of the Temple was that and so much more.
It is impossible to imagine or comprehend the full magnitude of the event. Every tribe of Israel was represented. It was the reunion of all reunions. The sights, sounds, and smells were beyond compare.
The uniqueness of this event was that the guest of honor was God. It was the celebration of his miraculous works. All the events, the sacrifices, the moving of the Ark of the Covenant into the Temple pointed to the glory of God. King Solomon put the whole event into perspective when he addressed the crowd with the words, “his own hand has fulfilled what he promised”. With those words he acknowledged that the glory, identity and future of Israel rested in their relationship with God.
What was true of Israel will also true for us as Christians.
