2 Corinthians 5:11-21

2 Corinthians 5:11-21 is a beautiful passage filled with the passionate message that people can be reconciled to God! Those of us who know God’s saving grace cannot just sit by and enjoy the benefits, “For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died . . . that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him” (2 Corinthians 5:14-15).

What is so great about being reconciled to God? Being reconciled means we are “a new creation,” our sins are no longer “counted against” us, and it means that, “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:17, 19, 21).

We understand the concept of “rebooting” a computer to clear out a mess. To be a new creation means that the old self with its self-centered chaos is gone forever. This “change” is really an “exchange.” Through his death and resurrection, Christ takes our sin nature and puts in us His righteous one.
