Luke 11:1-13

I love giving gifts. My favorite ones are handmade, because they reflect both the giver and the receiver. I treasure receiving gifts, too. Every time I see or use the gift later, I can think of the giver and smile.

You may have heard it said, “Don’t be afraid of out-giving God. It’s impossible to do that.” Jesus says we are God’s children (Luke 11:13). Our Father loves to bless us. If we think we are good at giving gifts, God must be an incredible Giver. If we enjoy giving, He adores it.

Luke 11 refers to the gift of the Holy Spirit. This is, in fact, not one gift but many gifts. The Spirit helps us bear fruit (Gal. 5:22-23), know the truth (John 14:16), have power to witness (Acts 1:8) and more. Like a handmade gift, the Spirit reflects the Giver and is made especially for us, His children.

To receive, all we have to do is ask. Matthew 7:7 promises when we ask our requests will be answered: “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” Ask Him today.
