No Ordinary Man

Philippians 2:1-11
Things are not always what they seem. Bob and Carol ate at a “Mongolian Barbeque” restaurant recently. Bob was expecting barbeque, but it wasn’t like any he had experienced before. They were told later that real Mongolian food isn’t anything like what they ate there. Would that be considered false advertising? I guess not. They were reminded again that things are not always what you expect them to be.
Paul says that Jesus was “in appearance as a man.” He may have looked like a common or ordinary man but nothing about him was common or ordinary.
There is nothing common about dying a horrific painful death for people who actually reject you. There is nothing ordinary about being the one true God and sacrificing yourself for the very human beings that you dreamed up and decreed into existence. He may have had the appearance of man, but he acted like God. He humbled himself and became obedient to death. And he invites you and me to live in the same way. Someone just may see Jesus in you.
