Revelation 2:1-7

Because of state and federal law, not to mention scriptural teachings on taxation and stewardship, I have an annual appointment with our certified public accountant. Our tax returns have been prepared by the same person for approximately 25 years. She knows virtually everything there is to know about our personal finances.

However, she works with the information that I give her from records, statements of income, and stewardship to the church and related ministries. Our accountant is a professional and we trust her implicitly. However, the divine accountant does not depend on data I provide.

The heavenly accountant has known me from the time I was formed in my mother’s womb to this very hour. He knows my every thought, word, motive, deed, and act: “Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain” (Ps. 139:6).

The heavenly accountant praises the Ephesians for their intolerance of wickedness and false prophets. Furthermore, he honors them for their endurance and hard work. Nevertheless, He calls not only for an audit of their faithfulness, but for careful maintenance of their first love.
