Genesis 1:14-26

The image is just that, mankind is made in the image of God. Many scholars believe this includes the moral qualities of God. Some believe the first person plural form “us” may refer to the Creator God and His heavenly hosts, while others suggest that the “us” refers to God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

A dad was caring his two young sons while their mother was gone for the evening. The house was quiet as the boys played in their bedroom. The dad heard a familiar sound and ran down the hall to their bedroom. Stevie, the oldest boy was using Dad’s electric razor to shave the head of Brian his younger brother. Trying desperately to remain his calm Dad said, “You know you are not to play with Daddy’s razor and look what you have done to Brian’s hair. Why did you do that?” Both boys are in tears. “But Daddy,” sobbed Stevie, “I was trying to make Brian look like you.” What could the baldheaded dad say in response?

We work hard to represent a good image of our earthly family. Do we work as hard at reflecting the image of our heavenly Father?

I believe God is the Great Creator. I struggle though, with the non-scientific explanation of this in Genesis: “God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars.” This is a very “earth centric” explanation of creation and, to me, seems to trivialize the actual creation of the universe. How do I explain this to my non-believing children?

I find that these verses are ones that show the beauty of our creation. Who else but our God could do this! He is the great creator and designer.
