Deuteronomy 6:1-19

In Mark 12:30 Jesus quotes from Deuteronomy 6:5, but then adds “with all your mind.” Makes me wonder why He added “mind”? Is there a dimension that heart, soul, and strength do not include? This verse spells out our responsibilities toward God. What about His responsibilities to us?

As I pondered Deuteronomy 6:5, it reminded me of a wedding. Recently my family experienced a large wedding with invitations, bridal showers, gifts, gowns, flowers, and ceremony, to name a few. What was the most important that day? I believe it was the vows the couple exchanged. The church was hushed as the bride and groom promised to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish; from this day forward until death do us part.

Isn’t this exactly what Jesus promises us? He will never leave us no matter the circumstances. He protects and cares for us lovingly. God’s great promise is that death will not part us from Him.
