Longs For A Mediator
August 16th, 2014
Job 9:21-35
There is an old saying about the truth having three sides; “There’s yours, there’s mine, and then there’s the truth.” In life we sometimes have conflicts with the truth. We sometimes debate what the truth is, and find that it may vary depending upon our point of view.
Job recognized he was absolutely outmatched when he tried to defend himself to God. When we have conflict with others and the battle lines are beginning to be drawn; there is a point where we need a neutral mediator, one who can help resolve the situation before it becomes untenable. Job knew he could not argue his case with God as if he were competing with another man in a court of law. He realized a mediator was necessary to close the gulf between man and God.
We now have the benefit of knowing that the mediator is Jesus Christ himself: “For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 2:5). In Him the gulf is now bridged. Job’s cry is answered.
